Do You Need Gluten-Free Skin Care?

The controversy over gluten-free products hit the beauty industry. The hottest point of contention? The claim that the gluten in your cleansers and creams can make you sick. While most researchers and doctors say that the two are not related, Beauties many do not. Beautylish asks whether you should be worried about the gluten-based ingredients in your favorite products.
Gluten is a special type of protein commonly found in many grains such as wheat, barley and rye. For most people, it gives food a delicious pasty texture elastic, but for others it is considered a dangerous invader and equipment. Beauties who suffer from a digestive disorder called celiac disease react intensely to all the particles to gluten in their system. The body mounts an immune reaction that damages the small intestine, interferes with the absorption of nutrients from food, and can also cause blistering, itching of the skin called dermatitis herpetiformis.
Many of these side effects are caused internally, but what about the products that we smear and smear on top of our skin? Should we be concerned about the gluten-based ingredients in our skin care routine? The answer is not so black and white, according to New Orleans dermatologist Patricia Farris, MD "While the gluten is not absorbed through the skin, patients may be sensitive to the compounds in extracts of wheat, rye and barley that can actually penetrate the skin, "says Dr. Farris. And even if we are careful with our cosmetics, topical ingredients can still enter the body in minute amounts in the nasal cavities and mouth .
Gluten is still a buzzword marketing hot, and many beauty brands have jumped on the train to ensure that their products are possible without gluten and wheat. Natural German brand Dr. Hauschka even had all of its products tested for gluten by the United German celiac (124 to 130 to make the cut!).
So what does this mean for beauty without any sensitivity? Honestly, not much. But for those who already suffer from allergies to gluten, it's time to check your skin care labels for all potential irritants.
